A perfectly made bed: what defines a professional finish?

Before putting linen on, check the mattress protector, the state of the fitted sheet, any hair or dust, pillows, duvet and visible base.

A beautiful presentation must never hide a stained protector or bedding item to replace.

A too-small sheet slips off easily. A too-large one creates folds and looks loose.

Sets should be clearly labelled by bed size: single, 140 cm, 160 cm, 180 cm, twin beds. Organised storage avoids wasting time comparing pieces during the visit.

The fitted sheet must be taut without deforming the mattress. The four corners should sit correctly and main folds be smoothed by hand.

This base determines how the rest of the bed holds.

The duvet should reach into the corners of the cover. An empty area or a lump gives an uneven look at once.

After placing it, shake and smooth from the foot of the bed.

Pillows should be fluffed, facing the same way and aligned with the headboard. When there are several formats, keep the arrangement simple and coherent.

Decorative cushions should only be used if clean and planned by the owner.

A private-home bed does not need to be turned into a hotel bed. Presentation should respect the home's identity and the owner's habits.

It can be fully closed, slightly folded down, topped with a throw or made from a reference photo. What matters is a stable method.

The finish is not just the sheets. Also check bedside tables, lamps, floor around the bed, replaced objects, marks on a washable headboard and no forgotten linen.

Clean linen must not be laid on the floor or mixed with used linen. Hands must be clean before handling, and dirty cleaning equipment kept away from bedding.

A well-made bed should look clean, regular, comfortable, coherent and ready to be used.
