Why surface area alone is not enough to estimate a cleaning service

A large open living space is usually simpler to organise than a series of small rooms. Stairs, mezzanines, many corridors, corners, low beams or several levels increase movement and equipment changes.

Layout also affects work order. A professional must be able to progress logically without dirtying an already finished area.

Two kitchens of the same size can have very different needs. A lightly used kitchen with clear surfaces is not the same as one with several appliances, a large hob, glossy fronts, an island, many objects, greasy marks and a heavily used sink.

The same applies to bathrooms. A simple shower does not require the same time as a large glass panel, a bath, a double basin and several mirrors.

Every object has to be moved, cleaned around or put back. A minimalist home gives quick access to surfaces; a heavily furnished interior requires more handling.

Number of occupants affects sanitary fixtures, floors, kitchen, linen, waste and tidying. Sleeping capacity is often as important as surface area.

Pets bring specific needs: hairs, floor marks, baskets, textiles. Some surfaces require several passes with a vacuum or specific equipment.

A visit can pursue different goals: keeping a home clean; tidying after occupancy; preparing an arrival; a deeper restart; treating windows or textiles; reaching a particularly polished presentation.

A request such as "do the cleaning" is therefore too vague for a correct estimate.

For a realistic proposal: surface area, layout, number of water rooms, beds, pets, frequency, current state, expected tasks and priorities.

Surface area gives a scale. The actual contents of the home give the workload.
